Asher Ridge is going on 5 months already, and I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how that can possibly be. Thus far time has been a thief even faster the second time around. Before I forget, I wanted to sit down and recap the top 5 baby must-haves for months 0-3. These are all things I feel we’ve used the most, and make the newborn season easier.
I also wanted to share this list because I remember all too well how overwhelming it can be as a first time mom (who gets decision fatigue easily and likes to be minimalistic when possible) to decide what to put on your baby registry.
Keep in mind, every baby is different and has different likes and dislikes straight out of the womb. So prepare to pivot, dogde, weave, but don’t stress on figuring it all out because you and your baby will learn eachother together – you’ve got this mama!
Top 5 Baby Must-Have for Months 0-3
The #1 baby item I recommend any first time mama’s is the Snuggle Me Organic. Atlas loved this thing, and Asher loves it just the same. It was the only way we could get either of them to sleep those first few weeks, and where they were most comfortable besides our arms.
Some people swear by the Dock-a-Tot, but the sling technology in the Snuggle Me is uncomparable in my opinion, but again, every baby is different.
2 | Sound Machine
Both boys slept in our room the first 4 months of their life (you know, up until that 4 month sleep regression hit), and a sound machine was a must.
Nick and I liked the white noise so much we can’t sleep without it now. With a dog, home renovations, and just the everyday chaos and noise, having a sound machine saves the day for nap time/sleeping.
We never go a night or nap without it for either boys, and Atlas has slept through some pretty loud construction thanks to it!
This is the sound machine my friend gifted us for Atlas when he was a baby. It came highly recommended and we love it.
Asher uses that one now, and we switched Atlas to the Hatch Baby Rise because of the “Rise” feature, which will hopefully prepare him for when we switch him to a big boy bed. I know a lot of people have this sound machine for baby’s nurseries as well. We love it, and it’s definitely another good option.
3 | Baby Carrier
With Asher I used the Sakura Bloom Ring Sling the most. I think I was too intimidated to try one with Atlas, but I’ve loved it and couldn’t imagine not having it those first few months.
As much as it helps the baby to be close to mom, I believe it really helped me combat baby blues/PPD as well.
If you’re planning on breastfeeding, you will want one (or two) of these! They are affordable and will save you so much milk. I was amazed and sad I didn’t have this when Atlas was born.
Those first few weeks of breastfeeding you make A LOT of milk. When I would nurse Asher on one boob, I would use the Haakaa on the other. It essentially just catches let down milk. Our entire freezer is stocked full just from using the Haakaa! Highly recommend.
The reason we got the Uppababy Vista when Atlas was born was because of it’s ability to convert into a double stroller.
I also can’t stress enough how convenient it is to be able to just use the carseat with the stroller for those first months (or as long as baby uses the carseat, Atlas used it for the first year). Basically this stroller was 110% worth the investment.
